Matters concerning families and/or juveniles are normally brought before a Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Even though this court is usually less formal than others, in some ways it has even broader powers than other courts. The judge has a wide range of options and sanctions that may be imposed in juvenile criminal cases that are intended to help the juvenile become a productive member of society, and usually reserves incarceration as a last resort. There is, however, no guarentee as to the outcome of the case. You need to contact me as soon as possible so I may begin protecting your rights and your child's rights.
Divorces must be handled in Circuit Court, while custody matters may be heard in either Circuit Court or Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts. There are many laws that may hurt as well as help you. Contact me if you are considering a divorce or a separation, or if you have custody issues, so I may begin protecting your interests.
Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts also hear matters concerning crimes occurring between adults under certain conditions. The judge may impose up to twelve months in jail or up to $2,500 in fines for a misdemeanor conviction, or the judge may certify the case to a Circuit Court for disposition of a felony matter. I have handled numerous cases involving juveniles and adults in Juvenile and Domestic Relations court, and I can assist you whether you need legal help with a situation involving your minor child or an adult relative.
